Packaging FAQs

What is the best way to pack a small, fragile item?

If you have a small fragile item that you want to safely ship, you will want to make sure that you buy a box that is a little bit bigger than the item, but not too much bigger. Before you place the item in the box, spread about an inch or two of packing peanuts into the bottom of the box. After the item being shipped has been added to the box, it would be wise to spread packaging peanuts around all sides of the item. Lastly, give the box a couple of firm (but careful) shakes to make sure that the peanuts are spread evenly throughout.

How can I save money on packing material?

With accelerating gas prices, rising food costs and general inflation impacting your bank account, there is good reason to look for ways to save money. Fortunately, packing materials do not need to be nearly as expensive as you might think. You can often get boxes for free if you simply look in the right places. You might want to ask grocery stores or furniture stores if they have old boxes they are planning on throwing away. You can also obtain boxes by finding them being given away on online classifieds.

How much will it cost to ship my package?

Shipping a package can be expensive, but it is not always. It depends on a few variables. One of the main things is how heavy your box will be. A box that weighs less than five pounds will be significantly cheaper to send than a box that weighs more than 10 pounds. Likewise, if you are sending a package domestically, it will be far cheaper than sending it to an international destination. Also, if you send overnight you can expect to pay big money, but if you plan ahead and ship a slower method, you can save some money.
